Bellegarde, the town of roses
Nobody would think about finding such a fine village. Bellegarde will surprise you.
The castle of the Duc d'Antin, legitimate son of Louis XIV's favourite Ms de Montespan, is here, waiting for you. Partly sold, the dungeon's now the property of the town.
Don't stop at the castle, walk through the garden, discover the chruch with this uncaracteristic tympan. Look closely, you will see a monolith, probably a carolingian sarcophagus. Enter the church and take your time inside : paintings and statues (even one of Joan of Arc, made by a local well-known sculptor) are worth looking at.
But that's not all ! Enjoy a little stroll around, you will see the freeze room, where the Duc d'Antin kept ice all year long.
And since, the tourist office is between the castle and the curch, stop by to say hello and discuss with us, it will be our pleasure.
Oh, and before leaving ! Go take a look at the roses carefully raised by the nursery owner.
